Today we are featuring a beautiful new National 1.5 Tricone. This particular guitar has been special ordered to include the Highlander resophonic pickup system. We don’t normally order this guitar with electonics, but we wanted to show that it is an available option.

The Gold Tone Resophonic 5-String Dojo pictured above is one of the only Reso-phonic 5-string banjos I have ever had the opportunity to play. As you would expect, the craftsmanship is tidy and the design is intelligent and attractive. What is surprising to me about this instrument is the tone. I would have expected a resonator style banjo to be quite harsh and shrill sounding but this ‘Dojo’ is quite subtle and ‘chimey’ sounding!
MORE →The National Tricone is patterned after the original instrument made in 1927 with its functional Art Deco industrial design. It is made of brass, highly polished and plated with either bright nickel plating or a custom Antique Brass treatment! The round, mahogany neck has an ivoroid bound ebony fingerboard. The headstock has the National logo inlayed in mother-of-pearl and vintage-style tuners!
MORE →This single cone guitar is patterned after the famous El Trovador that was made only in 1932 and 1933. The body is constructed entirely of mahogany – front, back and sides. The body is artistically bound with multiple layer binding and the mahogany neck features an ebony finerboard bound in ivoroid. The headstock has a rosewood overlay. the body is 4″ deep and the scale length of the neck is 25 21/32″.
MORE →Here is another example of a National Estralita Deluxe featuring a great set of native Hawaiian Koa. With tightly flamed grain lines and rich orange coloring this is definitely a beautiful set of wood! This single cone biscuit style resophonic has lots of volume and midrange bark with a hard attack and quick decay. The Pearloid headstock overlay, body binding, mother of pearl diamond inlays and vintage National tuners round out the high end features on this guitar but don’t distract from Koa. Hold onto your hula skirts this is one is sure to please!
