Ovation Preacher, 1979 (consignment) SOLD

Ovation Preacher, 1979 (consignment) SOLD

Here’s an Ovation Preacher from 1979 in excellent condition.

Ovation is mostly known for its breakthrough bowl-back acoustics, which became very popular on many stages. However, they did make a number of interesting solidbody electric guitars, including the Preacher.

Built between 1975 and 1981, the Preacher features a double-cutaway mahogany slab body and stereo/mono wiring.

Gibson Army Navy Special Model GY, around 1920 SOLD

Gibson Army Navy Special Model GY, around 1920 SOLD

The Gibson Army Navy Special, Model GY, was a nearly flat-top version of the L-Jr. archtop (the top has a slight arch but is not carved) and was built between 1918 and 1921. It was targeted to American servicemen during World War 1 and intended for sale at the local PX.

These instruments are fairly rare and have often been played, a lot – like this one. This is an interesting, quite playable, good sounding guitar with a definite history.

Hammertone Mandotar, 2000 (consignment) SOLD

The Hammertone Mandotar is a very interesting instrument. Built in George Furlanetto’s workshop in Hamilton, Ontario, these are a cross between a solidbody electric guitar and a mandolin.

They play very well, sound great, and a guitar player doesn’t have to learn any new voicings to just start using it.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop, 1976 SOLD

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop, 1976 SOLD

Here’s a great Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop from 1976.
The Gibson Les Paul was first released with this finish – metallic gold top and clear on the rest of the guitar. Over the years, the gold top finish has been available but by the 1970’s was mostly seen on the Deluxe model, featuring two mini-humbucker pickups (from Gibson’s Epiphone stock) in P-90 sized routes.

Gibson L-4C Archtop, 1952 (consignment) Sold

Gibson L-4C Archtop, 1952 (consignment) Sold

Here is a very nice Gibson L-4C from 1952. The L-4C was a cutaway version of the L4, and while this guitar was originally fully acoustic the pickup has been added to the pickguard so the body isn’t modified. The L-4 and L-4C feature a fully hollow body with a carved spruce top coupled with maple laminate back and sides. The L-4 was produced from 1912 to 1956 and the L-4C was produced from 1949 to 1971.

Supro ‘Super’ model, 1960 SOLD

Supro 'Super' model, 1960 SOLD

Here’s a really cool Supro Super model, built in 1960. Even less usually, this is a two-pickup model. The Super is a short-scale – 22 inch! – guitar likely intended for students.

This instrument features a ‘silverburst’ finish, basically a white to black sunburst; this has also been used by Gibson on some Les Paul Custom models and by Fender, who named it ‘Antigua’.
