The Kay instrument company made many, many instruments from the late 1930’s. This Kay Pro Electric from 1952 is in excellent condition and is a good example of what was available just before solidbody guitars really took off.
Kay instruments were widely used by many top pop popular artists, from jazz great Barney Kessel to Andrew McMahon in Howlin’ Wolf’s band.
MORE →Just in, a new Stelling Bellflower banjo! Here we have another superb example of Geoff Stelling’s craftsmanship.
Based on the very successful Stelling Bellflower Banjo , the Stelling Sunflower banjo features AAA-grade flame maple construction rather than Virginia Black Walnut; this provides a somewhat brighter tone with a more defined attack. The shaded ‘Cremona’ style sunburst finish pairs very well with the flamed maple.

This 2011 example is in good condition and is really interesting to play – and of course it has that sound. Complete with Accent vibrato tailpiece.

The Marr Jaguar is a little lower output, brighter and janglier than the traditional, full-vintage Jaguar – and the controls are friendlier! It’s just as comfortable as the original model, with a few other subtle improvements like nylon inserts in the bridge posts to help promote tuning stability, and Mustang style saddles rather than the original threaded-rod Jaguar saddles.
