National Triolian with Bakelite Neck 1929 (consignment) SOLD

Bakelite-neck nationals were made from about February 1929 to August 1930 for a production total of around 1800 instuments. They are rare, for a couple of reasons. First, they weren’t made for long because Bakelite turned out to be less stable than the designers hoped, even with a steel rod inserted on later models and the experiment was discontinued.

Valley Arts guitars were originally produced in Los Angeles, with the first model appearing around 1977 and demand from top west coast musicians requiring rapid growth. Unfortunately a 1990 arson at the shop next door to their retail location caused the Valley Arts company significant damage, and in 1992 Samick bought a 50% stake and assumed production.
