Martin M-36 Steel String Guitar Natural, 2012

Martin M-36 Steel String Guitar Natural, 2012

The Martin M-36 is based on the very successful Martin M, or 0000 ‘Quadruple O’ size body. This is larger than any of the single to triple 0 size bodies, yet smaller than a dreadnought; consequently it is fairly loud with great projection, and has a very evenly represented tone and is very comfortable to play. It’s ideal for solo performers but fits well into ensembles and extremely well into recording situations.

Martin M38 Steel String Guitar Natural, 1977

Martin M38 Steel String Guitar Natural, 1977

The Martin M38 uses Martin’s largest non-dreadnought body design, sometimes called the ‘0000’ body because of its size and balanced shape. Martin’s M body draws from a guitar built for David Bromberg by Matt Umanov in the 1960s, which itself is a flat-top conversion of a Martin F-7, an archtop model built between 1935 and 1939, and from 1941 into 1942. The M38 was built from 1977 to 1997, as the 0000-38 from 1997 to 1998, and again as the M38 from 2007 to 2011. Currently Martin builds the M36 as a standard model.

The Martin M-36 uses the fairly new ‘M Body’ design, which using Martin’s ‘O’ sizing is an OOOO, or quadruple O size. Outside of the D Dreadnought and J Jumbo models, this is the largest body Martin uses and it provides a full, even tone with lots of volume.
