The National RM1-E A-style mandolin hearkens back to the early days of Resophonic instruments, when the concept was being applied wherever more volume was needed.Here we have the Maple-Walnut version, which isn’t just a great ice cream flavour. Walnut was used as an instrument wood for centuries, and brings a slight mellowness to the tone.

Gibson A Jr Model Junior A-Style Mandolin Sheraton Brown, 1924

Here we’re looking at a Gibson A Junior model mandolin in Sheraton brown – basically the only colour available for this model. It’s built like other A-Style mandolins, the key differences being wood quality and low decoration level. The arched, carved top features an oval soundhole and is Adirondack Spruce, while the arched, carved back is Maple, as are the sides and neck.

Collings MT2 V Mandolin Varnish A-Style

The Collings MT2 V Mandolin is fully appointed A-model, built with an Adirondack Red Spruce top and premium figured Maple back and sides and finished with a hand-rubbed varnish. This mandolin has a tone that is rich in low mids and very smooth in the treble range.

Yair Stern Teardrop Mandolin, 2018

This Yair Stern Teardrop mandolin is a new instrument, and is well made with quality materials. The tone is warm yet bright and snappy, well balanced with good clarity and separation. It is very comfortable to play and its light hand applied finish provides some protection but does not restrict the wood’s vibration. The tailpiece is a cast, chrome plated AShton Bailey unit. The tuners are also chrome plated, with faux pearl buttons.

Collings MT Mandolin Blonde Top, 2018

This Collings MT, built during 2018 in Austin, Texas, features a custom Blonde finished, Engelmann Spruce top that very nicely matches its binding. An Eastern Flamed Maple for the carved back and sides, and Ebony for the fingerboard, bridge and head plate. The metal hardware is nickel plated. Collings is now using a combination of highly skilled hand fret work and PLEK system levelling, with a very positive result.

❌ Sold ❌ Gibson A-Style Mandolin Brown Top, 1918

Seen here is a Gibson A-Style mandolin dating to 1918. The carved, oval sound hole top is Sitka Spruce, the sides are Maple as is the carved back. The fingerboard and bridge are Ebony. A single layer of binding was applied to the top, only – not the back, fingerboard, or head. The headstock does not have, or has lost, a Gibson logo. The original pick guard, which would have been celluloid, is long gone.
