House 000 12 String 12 Fret Guitar Natural, 2023

Here we have a lovely Josh House 000 12 String, 12 Fret model built during 2023 with Bearclaw figured SitkaSpruce for the top and ‘Fallen Giant’ Mahogany for the sides, back and neck. Mahogany is also used for the body blocks and linings. The head plate, bridge and and fingerboard are African Blackwood, with Box Elder for the headstock logo and Curly Maple for binding.

Ramirez 1a Flamenco Blanca Guitar, 1969

Ramirez 1a flamenco guitars are built in the traditional Spanish style at the ‘home’ workshop. The guitar centers on a ‘slipper foot’ neck to body joint, with the sides fitting into slots cut into the heel block. The body pairs a Spruce top with Cypress back and sides – a very light wood in terms of weight and colouring, also providing a lot of brightness to the tone.

Sakurai No.8 Cedar Top Classical Guitar, 1977

The M. Sakurai No.8 Cedar Top Classical guitars, indeed the entire line of Masaki Sakurai models, are under-appreciated gems. The set of guitars with labels reading ‘M. Sakurai Supervised by M. Kohno’ are from the period where Masaki Sakurai was still learning the craft from his uncle, Masaru Kohno.

Santa Cruz OM Pre-War (OM-PW) Natural, 2010

Here we have a very nicely preserved Santa Cruz OM Pre-War model in its stock configuration, pairing a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. This lovely piece is in great shape with only light wear to the finish and negligible fret wear.

Martin HD-28V Vintage Series Dreadnought, 2012

On November 29, 2023 /

The Martin HD-28V offered many vintage spec features as part of the Vintage Series produced from 1998 to late 2018. Based on the classic D-28, the ‘H’ refers to the Herringbone purfling used around the top, as was standard on Martins into the early years of WW2. At the start of that War, Martin realized that their herringbone purfling supplier was in Germany, and resupply would be impossible.

The Ramirez 1a or Tradicional, seen here with a Spruce top, has for been a benchmark of top quality classical and flamenco guitars for over half a century. The 1a designation technically refers to the quality of the materials and workmanship, but has become associated with the Tradicional model.
