G W Barry Mod-C Ziricote Cutaway Steel String Guitar, 2018

G W Barry Mod-C Ziricote Cutaway Steel String Guitar, 2018

Here we have another “truly” handcrafted sonic masterpiece from the workshop of G.W. Barry, a ‘Mod-C Ziricote’.    This instrument is passing through our shop on the way to its new owner, and it looks so good we wanted to share it.   This is Mr. Barry’s Modified Concert model in Bear-claw Sitka Spruce and Ziricote. With a 15.5 in. lower bout width and 4.25 in. tail end depth the Mod-C bridges the gap between a standard OM and Dreadnought dimensions, while its curvaceous lines add an ergonomic comfort factor when in a seated playing position.

Collings OM1A Julian Lage Signature Guitar, 2018

Collings OM1A Julian Lage Signature Guitar, 2018

This Collings OM1 A Julian Lage signature model, using the A for Adirondack Spruce top option, is an exceptional guitar and was the last collaboration by Bill Collings before his death in 2017. Based on Lange’s original 1939 000-18, the Collings OM1-JL uses traditional materials – spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck, and ebony for the fingerboard, headplate and bridge. The nut and saddle are bone. The  tuners are by Waverly, and work very well.   On this guitar, the neck is carved to match Lange’s.

The head plate is Indian Rosewood and carries a Bourgeois logo in Mother of Pearl, and the tail wedge is Ziricote.   Waverly open gear tuning machines are the only metal parts.   Fossilized mammoth ivory is used for the nut and saddle.   Hot Hide Glue is used in the construction, which contributes to the ‘Vintage’ tone and also makes certain repairs much easier.
