The Hofner Violin Bass Vintage ’61, seen here in its Left Handed form reflects the evolution of the classic bass now mostly known as the ‘Beatle Bass’. Quite rare, the Hofner Violin Bass Vintage ’61 features a solid carved Spruce top, with Flame maple sides and flat back.

Hofner 500/1 ’62 Reissue Violin Bass Burst, 2012

Here we have a Hofner 500/1 ’62 Reissue Violin Bass sometimes named the ‘Mersey bass’. It’s very close in design to the 1963 version used by Paul McCartney on more than a few successful recordings and appearances. This bass was built at the Hofner plant in Baiersdorf / Hagenau Germany during 2012 and is in good condition, all original except for a missing pickguard.

Gibson John Lennon J-160E Peace Model Natural, 2010

Between 2002 and 2013 a total of 750 Gibson John Lennon J-160E Peace Model guitars were built, with this one being 493 from January 2010. The Gibson J-160e appeared in 1954 and was built until 1979. It was intended to provide a reasonable representation of an acoustic guitar at stage volumes, supported by amplifiers.

Gibson J-160E Electric FlatTop Sunburst, 1956

Introduced in 1954, the Gibson J-160E flat top electric turned out to be one of the more successful of Gibson’s slope-shouldered dreadnoughts. Intended as a companion to the then-new Les Paul solidbody, the Gibson J-160E was one of the first mass production electrified steel string guitars. This model was discontinued in 1979, and is occasionally re-issued.

Hofner Gold Label Berlin Violin Bass Cream, 2016

Part of a now-discontinued special series, the Hofner Gold Label Berlin Violin Bass is the top of the line for these iconic instruments. The Hofner Gold Label basses were signed by master builder Thomas Stuhlein at the Hofner shop in Hagenau, Bavaria. The sealed – body construction is Maple laminate for the top, sides and back.

It’s very close in design to the 1963 version used by Paul McCartney on more than a few successful recordings and appearances. The Hofner 500-1 violin bass is one of the world’s most recognizable basses.
