Vega Deluxe Electric Tenor Banjo Sunburst Restored, 1937

Vega Deluxe Electric Tenor Banjo Sunburst Restored, 1937

Here we have a real rarity from around 1937 – a restored, refinished and replated Vega Deluxe Electric Tenor Banjo, and they meant ‘Electric’ – this has a pickup! The Vega company was one of the older banjo builders in the USA, having started during 1881 in Boston, Massachusetts and acquiring the A C Fairbanks company assets in 1904 following a devastating fire at the Fairbanks plant. By the 1040s Vega was fading, and in the 1970s C F Martin purchased the company and held it until 1989 when Greg Deering bought it and re-created the Vega line.

Deering Vega Senator Open Back 5 String Banjo, 2008

Deering Vega Senator Open Back 5 String Banjo, 2008

The Deering Vega Senator banjo is the perfect “crossover” and parlor banjo. It is a light-weight, classic open back banjo, with a warm, woody tone with a lightweight tone ring that adds just enough punch and high-end clarity to play bluegrass with your buddies but warm, fat and woody enough to play in your parlor as a classic clawhammer or fingerstyle solo instrument.

Vega Artist Tenor Banjo, 1926

The Vega Artist Tenor banjo was a professional grade instrument made by one of the top – from the turn of the 20th century to the 1930s – American musical instrument producers. However, just about the time the Dopyera Brothers and George Beauchamp started National to produce their new resophonic guitars, the popularity of banjos began to drop, and by the 1930s many banjo players had shifted to guitar.

Deering Boston Open Back 6 String Banjo

Deering Boston Open Back 6 String Banjo

The Deering Boston Open Back 6 String Banjo is built specifically for The Twelfth Fret. Many guitar players find that they want to incorporate banjo tones, but don’t want to learn a new instrument. The stock Deering Boston Open Back 6 addresses this need, but we find that the tone is too harsh. So, we’ve had Deering mate the standard Boston 6 neck with a Vega Little Wonder wooden tone ring pot. This offers the warmest and fattest tone possible for a six string banjo, and brings the weight down to about 7 pounds.
