Gibson ES-125 Archtop Electric with P-90, Sunburst 1961

The Gibson ES-125 made its debut in 1941 as a student model – an affordable archtop electric, of maple laminate, one pickup and little decoration. In 1956, the new thin body ‘ES-125T’ appeared and was available with two pickups and a cutaway.

Gregory Byers Classical Guitar Brazilian, 2011

Gregory Byers Classical Guitar Brazilian, 2011

A Gregory Byers Classical guitar is rare to see on the used market. He generally builds as many as twelve guitars per year, to order. His instruments are usually built one at a time, allowing Byers to give maximum attention to each specific guitar. Byers builds single top guitars (as opposed to double top), though he does use other techniques such as the ‘Elevated Fingerboard’ which really involves the top dropping down towards the heel.

Gibson ES-125 Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1953

Gibson ES-125 Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1953

This Gibson ES-125 in the original full body, no cutaway, one pickup configuration, is clearly dated to 1953 from the FON, Factory Order Number stamped on the inside back and visible from the treble F-hole.  FON’s were used at various times, and from 1952 to 1961 started with a letter code, counting down from Z to Q. Y represents 1953, and this guitar was the 26th in batch 4011.
