Hofner Gold Label Berlin Violin Bass Cream, 2016

Part of a now-discontinued special series, the Hofner Gold Label Berlin Violin Bass is the top of the line for these iconic instruments. The Hofner Gold Label basses were signed by master builder Thomas Stuhlein at the Hofner shop in Hagenau, Bavaria. The sealed – body construction is Maple laminate for the top, sides and back.

Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960 Cherry Burst, 1993

This Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960 Reissue sporting in Cherry Burst finish and ‘1960’ stamped creme pick guard, was built during 1993 at the Nashville plant. The Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960 follows the usual pattern of a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany back, set Mahogany neck and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The carve of the top is a little more pronounced than the slightly flatter R series, and the neck is slimmer.

Taylor LKSM Leo Kotke 12 String Signature Model Natural, 1993

The Taylor LKSM – the Leo Kottke Signature Model – is now discontinued but is one of the best choices for fast, articulated 12-string guitar styles. Leo Kottke has been closely associated with the 12-string guitar for most of his career, and often played models by Bozo Podunovak, Gibson and Martin. Known for his fast, loud and well articulated playing, Kottke used both thumb and finger picks until the 1980s when tendonitis forced him to stop playing for several years.

Larrivee Classical Guitar Cedar Top, 1972

This lovely and well preserved Jean Larrivee classical guitar was built during 1972 in Toronto, likely above the Tarragon Theatre. That location was Larrivee’s first formal shop space separate from his home, and was soon followed by a storefront on Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Jean Larrivée began building at his home around 1967. At that time, if you were interested in building guitars you read the very few books on the subject or met an established builder.

Taylor 512ce Grand Concert Natural, 2012

The Taylor 512ce Grand Concert is a compact-bodied steel string guitar well suited to fingerstyle playing. Introduced in 1978, the 512ce has changed somewhat over the years. Initially built with Mahogany for the back and sides with an X-braced top and a standard dovetail neck joint, the 512 gained the hybrid NT neck joint in 1999.

Here’s a Gibson Les Paul Studio with Gold plated hardware, in a gloss Wine Red finish from 1996. It’s been used as intended and is in nice playing condition. Built with a carved Maple cap on a non-weight relieved Mahogany back, this model has a Mahogany neck with an unbound Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
