Ramirez FL1A Flamenco Blanca Spruce, 2010

Ramirez FL1A Flamenco Blanca Spruce, 2010

The now- discontinued Ramirez Fl1A Flamenco guitar is one of the standards for concert quality Flamenco instruments. It is traditionally constructed with a European spruce top, cypress back and sides and Spanish Cedar neck.  Ebony is used for the fingerboard and Indian Rosewood for the bridge, and the nut and saddle are bone.   The model name, FL1A, expands to ‘Flamenco’, Grade 1, and the A refers to the material for the top – Abeto, meaning ‘Fir’ but specifically Spruce as distinct from the Red Cedar pioneered by Jose Ramirez III.

Godin Multiac Jazz SA Lightburst, 2003

Godin Multiac Jazz SA Lightburst, 2003

The Godin Multiac Jazz SA is one of the many Multiac variants, here with a highly figured Maple top, chambered Maple and Poplar back, Maple neck, Richlite fingerboard and a range of pickup options including synthesizer output. The Godin Multiac Jazz, like other Multiac models draws from the early 1980’s Gibson Chet Atkins Classical concept – a solid bodied, set-neck guitar with a piezo bridge pickup and preamp set. While Gibson did not pursue this as diligently as they might have, Godin stepped up to produce an excellent, durable and very versatile instrument with a wide range of applications, and very little feedback at stage volumes!

Godin ACS SA Grand Concert Duet Classical Electric, Natural

The Godin ACS SA Grand Concert Duet Classical Electric is a descendant of the Gibson Chet Atkins CEC – Cutaway Electric Classical.   While Gibson eventually dropped the design,  Godin picked it up and with some practical changes such as a bolt-on neck and a mix of piezo and synthesizer pickups have turned it into a very popular instrument used by performers worldwide.

La Esperanza Classe 1000 Concert Classical Guitar, 1979

La Esperanza Classe 1000 Concert Classical Guitar, 1979

Here we have a nicely kept La Esperanza Classe 1000 classical guitar built during 1979 in the shop of Masaru Matano or his successors in Kurume, Japan. Matano’s shop built the La Esperanza Classe 1000 and lower priced Classe 600 for sale for the company name “Ongaku Geijutsusha Co” and these models were based on Ramirez instruments. The Classe 1000 features a Red Cedar top and double layer Rosewood sides and back, which is not quite the same as laminated. Here, the two layers are of Brazilian Rosewood and are used to reduce overtones and ‘wolf’ tones when the guitar is played loudly.
