Santa Cruz OM-PW Pre War Style Guitar, 2004

Santa Cruz OM-PW Pre War Style Guitar, 2004

Following in the traditions of American guitar building, the Santa Cruz OM-PW – the PW stands for ‘Pre War’ – delivers vintage style tone and playability. The OM-PW design dates back to the end of the 1920’s when the Martin Guitar Company introduced the Orchestra Model or OM. Very similar to the ‘OOO’ model, the key difference is in the scale length. The OM scale is over 25 inches, usually the same as the Dreadnought models, while the ‘OOO’ scale length is typically around 24.9 inches. Otherwise the bodies are the same.

Whyte Laydie Style Banjo Unknown Builder, 1980s

The originals of the Whyte Laydie style banjos were made by the Fairbanks company around the turn of the 20th century, with a particular type of tone ring. The Whyte Laydie tone ring is a scalloped brass ring with a steel tone hoop, which provides higher volume, sustain and ‘ringing’ tone. A C Fairbanks was a large musical instrument manufacturer in Boston, but in 1904 suffered a devastating workshop fire, for which they were under insured.

Larrivee OM 09K Koa Steel String Guitar, 1996

Larrivee OM 09K Koa Steel String Guitar, 1996

The Larrivee OM 09K is the Koa version of the normally Rosewood bodied OM-09 Artist model, based on the classic Orchestra Model design dating back to the late 1920s. This body design originated with Martin, and is very similar to the 000 models, but the OM has a longer scale length – 25.5 inches compared to the 000’s 24.9 inches. This increases brightness, clarity and volume. The OM body also produces a well balanced tonal representation throughout the spectrum.

Martin D 28 Dreadnought Steel String Guitar, 2012

Martin D 28 Dreadnought Steel String Guitar, 2012

This particular Martin D 28 was built during 2012 as part of the Standard Series at the Martin plant in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It is in overall good condition. It has been well cared for but has been used as intended, so there is honest play wear in the usual locations. In particular, there is some pick wear to the top finish on the treble side of the fingerboard tag.   There is also light to moderate fret wear in the lower positions.
