Epiphone Texan FT79N Steel String Natural, 1966

The Epiphone Texan FT79N – the N indicating a Natural finish on the top rather than Sunburst – was built as a slope shoulder dreadnought from 1958 to 1970 when Epiphone production ceased in the USA. The Epiphone FT79 was originally built from 1941 to 1958 as a square shoulder dreadnought with Walnut back and sides until 1949, and then with laminated Maple until the company was sold to Gibson in 1958.

Yamaha Revstar RS720B with Bigsby Sunburst, 2021

From its launch in 2015, the Yamaha Revstar line has included a number of high quality instruments that don’t quite look like anything else. The model seen here, a Yamaha Revstar RS720B (the B specifies a Bigsby B50 and Tune-O-Matic bridge), seems to have been dropped from the 2022 lineup but appeared in the 2018 USA Yamaha Guitars catalog.

Rickenbacker 325v59 Short Scale Thinline MapleGlo, 1997

The Rickenbacker 325v59 reissue was built for some years, and reproduces the second, 1959 version of the 325 as used by John Lennon in the early days of the Beatles. This second year has several significant differences compared to the first 1958 model, including a thinner body and the v59’s use of Maple rather than Alder for both the body and neck.

The Rickenbacker 325c58 reissue was built only during 2006, and reproduces the first 1958 version of the 325 as used by John Lennon in the early days of the Beatles. The Rickenbacker 325 Model 1996 reissue built only during 2006 recreates the guitars sold by Rose-Morris in England during the early 1960s, and most famously used by John Lennon for many early Beatles performances and recordings.

Gibson Nighthawk ST Standard 2-pickup Sunburst, 1998

The Gibson Nighthawk was produced in three versions, the Custom (CST or CST-3) the Standard (ST or ST-3) and the Special (SP or SP-3). In all cases, the -3 indicates that the guitar has three pickups. The model was originally built from 1993 to 1998, and again from 2009 to 2020. Unusually for Gibson models, the Nighthawk has a fixed bridge but it’s a string-through model with fully adjustable saddles.
