Fender Telecaster Rosewood Fingerboard Blonde, 1976

Fender Telecaster Rosewood Fingerboard Blonde, 1976

The Fender Telecaster Rosewood Fingerboard models appeared in September of 1959 as Fender introduced this wood to attract Gibson players. This was originally a flat-bottomed ‘Slab’ fingerboard glued to the flat top of the Maple neck, and the truss rod mounted from a channel underneath the fingerboard. In July 1962, Fender introduced new production processes to bond a thin layer of Rosewood to the curved top of a Maple neck blank, and this process is still used today.

Dobro Model 66S Squareneck OMI Sandblast Sunburst, 1975

Dobro Model 66S Squareneck OMI Sandblast Sunburst, 1975

Here we’re looking at an unusual guitar, the Dobro Model 66s, a wood bodied, single cone resophonic guitar with round sound holes and square neck. Its unique feature is the finish. The guitar was first given a standard Sunburst, then many extra coats of a tinted lacquer, and then that was sandblasted into a ‘French Scroll’ design. This Dobro Model 66s example dates to 1975 and was built at Huntington Beach, California.

SOLD Gibson R8 Les Paul Tom Murphy Aged Sunburst, 2002

SOLD Gibson R8 Les Paul Tom Murphy Aged Sunburst, 2002

The Gibson R8 reproduces the famed 1958 Les Paul Standard model, the first in the line to include both a sunburst finish and the then-new PAF humbucker pickups. Launched in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul model put a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany slab, and paired that with a Mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard and a gold-top finish. The Les Paul custom soon followed, but without the Maple cap – the body was all Mahogany, including the carved top – and with an Ebony fingerboard and Black finish. For 1958, the Les Paul Standard appeared, using the same Maple and Mahogany construction but with a Sunburst finish.

Boucher HG24 M Heritage Goose Parlor 12 Fret Guitar

Boucher HG24 M Heritage Goose Parlor 12 Fret Guitar

Here is a lovely Boucher HG24 M Heritage Goose Parlor 12 Fret Guitar, built with a Torrefied Adirondack Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. Once a dominant guitar design, the Parlor style guitar’s popularity faded along with the banjo and the introduction of Jumbo or Dreadnought body sizes in the early 1930’s. Parlor guitars tend not to be particularly loud, but do offer even, rich tone. As more players become interested in solo finger styles, the Parlor design is becoming more attractive again and builders are offering high-quality takes, such as the Boucher HG54 M.

Fender 62 Jazz Bass Reissue Olympic White Made in USA, 1994

Fender 62 Jazz Bass Reissue Olympic White Made in USA, 1994

Here we have a Fender 62 Jazz Bass Reissue from 1994, in the Olympic White finish. This is a Made in USA model featuring early style concentric controls! The 62 Fender Jazz Bass reissue draws closely from the initial 1960 to 1962 Jazz Bass models. The Jazz Bass was Leo Fender’s second distinct bass model after the two iterations of the seminal Precision Bass. Seeking to capture the remaining jazz bassists still using acoustic basses, this model featured a narrower neck for fast playing, and new single coil pickups with a punchier, more focused tone.
