Taylor 615ce Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic Natural, 2000

Taylor 615ce Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic Natural, 2000

The Taylor 615ce was built from 1998 to 2011 and used a cutaway version of Taylor’s Jumbo body style, pairing Sitka Spruce and highly figured Maple like other guitars in Taylor’s 600 series. The 615ce superseded the original 600 non-cutaway jumbo models, which were built from 1981 to 1998. Taylor Guitars as a company was founded in 1974 as a partnership between Bob Taylor and Kurt Lustig and has become one of the largest US based musical instrument manufacturers.

Gibson SJ Long Scale Square Shoulder Dreadnought Sunburst, 1968

Gibson SJ Long Scale Square Shoulder Dreadnought Sunburst, 1968

The Gibson SJ Long Scale, Square Shoulder Dreadnought was a variation on the classic SJ model built for a short time around 1968 as Gibson competed with Martin. The classic SJ first appeared in 1942 as a replacement for the J-55, an ‘upscale’ version of the J-45. This was originally a ‘slope’ or round-shouldered dreadnought with a 24.75 inch scale length in either sunburst or natural finish. The natural-top SJN version was renamed to the ‘Country Western’ from 1955 to 1960, and then back to SJN. In 1962, it was renamed again to ‘SJN Country Western’.

The Gibson J50 was introduced in 1947, as the end of WW2 allowed access to more and better materials. The J-50 was marketed as a ‘blonde’ or natural finish version of the very successful J-45, itself introduced in 1942, and carried a higher price.
