Gibson J45 ADJ Slope Shoulder Acoustic Sunburst, 1966

Gibson J45 ADJ Slope Shoulder Acoustic Sunburst, 1966

Here we’re looking at a Gibson J45 ADJ model, built likely during 1966 at Gibson’s historic Parsons Street shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It shows a number of 1966 features, including the Rosewood adjustable bridge and a thicker styrene pickguard with a Gibson logo engraved by the fingerboard tag. The original finish has been oversprayed, so the surfaces are quite smooth and glossy.

This Lowden L25 is in good working order, and dates to 1989 at the shop in Bangor, County Down. It is built using a Red Cedar top paired with Indian Rosewood for the rather deep sides, back, neck stiffeners, head plate and bridge, with Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the unbound fingerboard. The bridge is a pinless design, with the strings loading through the back edge of the bridge.  Tuners are gold plated, with Lowden logos and faux pearloid buttons.

Gibson J50 Slope Shoulder Jumbo Guitar Natural, 1953

Gibson J50 Slope Shoulder Jumbo Guitar Natural, 1953

The Gibson J50 Slope Shouldered jumbo model was introduced in 1947 as an ‘upgrade’ to the successful J-45, with a natural finish showing off the higher quality Spruce top. The J-50 was built until 1982, shifting to a square shoulder body design for 1969, and has been reissued from time to time. This is a relatively early Gibson J50, built during 1953 at the Gibson Parsons Street plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Built almost exactly like the iconic J45, this J50 uses Adirondack Spruce for the top and top bracing, with Mahogany for the back, sides, neck, body blocks, linings and back bracing.
