Gibson Les Paul Standard Pelham Blue, 2016

Gibson Les Paul Standard Pelham Blue, 2016

Here’s an unusual find – a very good condition Gibson Les Paul Standard in Pelham Blue, built as a 2016 model and dating to the last day of 2015.  The Gibson Les Paul Standard appeared as a 1958 model and introduced Gibson’s new humbucking pickups. Prior to this, the Les Paul had been available in several forms – the Les Paul, Les Paul Custom, Les Paul Special and Les Paul Junior. All of those used P90 pickups except the Custom, which carried an AlNiCo ‘Staple Top’ pickup in the neck position.

SOLD Gibson R8 Les Paul Tom Murphy Aged Sunburst, 2002

SOLD Gibson R8 Les Paul Tom Murphy Aged Sunburst, 2002

The Gibson R8 reproduces the famed 1958 Les Paul Standard model, the first in the line to include both a sunburst finish and the then-new PAF humbucker pickups. Launched in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul model put a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany slab, and paired that with a Mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard and a gold-top finish. The Les Paul custom soon followed, but without the Maple cap – the body was all Mahogany, including the carved top – and with an Ebony fingerboard and Black finish. For 1958, the Les Paul Standard appeared, using the same Maple and Mahogany construction but with a Sunburst finish.

SOLD!! Gibson GB-3 Mastertone Guitar Banjo, 1926

SOLD!! Gibson GB-3 Mastertone Guitar Banjo, 1926

The first of the Gibson GB series of 6-string Mastertone Guitar Banjos appeared in 1918, as the GB-3 and GB-4. The GB-1 and GB-6 appeared in 1922, and by 1940, production had completely ended. The GB-5 was built only during 1925. These models were influenced by the popular Paramount banjo designs. These instruments are perhaps comparable in intent to the Resophonic guitars that were introduced by National just a few years later – meant to be used in fairly loud ensembles, often with horns, playing the Dixieland jazz that was all the rage.
