Hofner Gold Label Berlin Violin Bass Cream, 2016

Part of a now-discontinued special series, the Hofner Gold Label Berlin Violin Bass is the top of the line for these iconic instruments. The Hofner Gold Label basses were signed by master builder Thomas Stuhlein at the Hofner shop in Hagenau, Bavaria. The sealed – body construction is Maple laminate for the top, sides and back.

Hofner 500/1 Vintage ’62 Reissue Violin Bass Sunburst, 2014

Built in Germany during 2014, this is a Hofner 500/1 Vintage ’62 Reissue version, sometimes named the ‘Mersey bass’. It’s very close in design to the 1963 version used by Paul McCartney on more than a few successful recordings and appearances. The Hofner 500-1 violin bass is one of the world’s most recognizable basses.

The Hofner 125 ‘London’ model appeared in 1954 with the newly rising interest in amplified music and Rock & Roll. This example dates to 1957 and is complete and original. All the original parts are here, including the pickguard, original strap attachments, and hard shell case.

Hofner Rooftop Bass 500/1 Left Hand Sunburst, 2022

We are fortunate to have received a very rare Hofner Rooftop Bass, a replica of the bass used by Paul McCartney for the Apple Corps Rooftop concert in January 1969 – which ended with a police raid. Built in Hagenau, Germany by Hofner luthier Thomas Stühlein, this special edition bass reproduces McCartney’s 1963 500/1 left hand Violin Bass, with light aging reflecting the six years of use during Beatles shows and recording sessions.

The Hofner 500/1 was for some years one of the most recognizable instruments in the world because of its use by Paul McCartney, during The Beatles and in his solo career. Introduced in 1956, the Hofner 500/1 and its close relatives quickly caught on in the European market, partly on their own merits and partly because imported US made instruments were difficult to get and very expensive.
