Johnny Walker Grand Concert Cutaway Classical Guitar, 2010

Johnny Walker Grand Concert Cutaway Classical Guitar, 2010

Here is a rarity – a fine Johnny Walker Grand Concert cutaway classical guitar, built during 2010 at Walker’s shop in the heartlands of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Originally trained as a research chemist, Johnny Walker developed an interest in classical guitar and while taking lessons, decided to build a better guitar from a kit.  That worked out well and led to another, then another, and by 1966 Johnny Walker Guitars was born.

PRS CE24 Solidbody Tobacco Sunburst, 1991

PRS CE24 Solidbody Tobacco Sunburst, 1991

The PRS CE24 solidbody combines a number of classic themes, and in fact CE24 stands for ‘Classic Electric 24 Frets’. The body is the typical PRS combination of a double cutaway with carved Maple top on a Mahogany slab back, and the bolt-on neck is Maple with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. This example was built during 1991 at the PRS shop in Stevensville, Maryland, and carries a tobacco sunburst. The hardware includes PRS locking tuners, a PRS vintage style trem bridge, and a pair of uncovered humbuckers.

Taylor T5 C2 Ebony Top Thinline, 2008

 Taylor T5 C2 Ebony Top Thinline, 2008

The Taylor T5 C2 is now discontinued in favour of other T5 models, but is an excellent example of form meeting functional needs – its original purpose was to take the place of multiple instruments on a tour stage. Here we’re looking at a Taylor T5 C2 model with a strikingly figured Ebony top, built during 2008 at the Taylor plant in El Cajon, California. The finish itself is very clean and only very lightly marked. The hardware is gold plated, and the inlays are a mix of Abalone, acrylic and Mother of Pearl.

Rob Allen MB2 Fretless Bass Walnut, 2010

Rob Allen MB2 Fretless Bass Walnut, 2010

Here we have a Rob Allen MB2 Fretless Bass, built with a Walnut topped Mahogany body during 2010 at Allen’s shop in Fillmore, California.  Rob Allen designs and builds to his own preferences combining acoustic and electric tonalities. The Allen MB-2 bodies are semi-hollow, and use acoustic style bridges rather than massive metal units. The bridge itself is Rosewood, with a Bone saddle and a built-in Fishman transducer – there is also a volume control on the bridge itself.
