  Gibson Super 400 Archtop Guitar Natural, 1948

The Gibson Super 400 features a large body – 18 inches wide – with a solid, carved Spruce top, Figured Maple sides, solid, carved Figured Maple back and a Maple neck with, at this point, an multi-bound Ebony fingerboard. In 1949, Rosewood was used for Super 400 fingerboards. The bridge is also Ebony.   Here, the top is braced with parallel tone bars, but some years had an X brace system.

Finished in a nitrocellulose lacquer Desert Burst sunburst, this Gibson Les Paul Standard was built at Gibson’s Nashville plant and dates to June 12th, 2008. It features a chambered, weight relieved Mahogany body with lightly flamed Maple cap, Mahogany for the asymmetrical-profile neck and Indian Rosewood for the bound fingerboard.

This instrument is an early Valley Arts Custom Pro, in the 7/8th size and 25.75 inch scale format and with the ultra rare interlocking neck joint, built during 1987 at the expanded Valley Arts shop in North Hollywood, California. As was the case for many other early Valley Arts guitars, this example was originally purchased and used regularly by a top-rank professional guitarist for many studio and performance engagements. All of the wear on this guitar comes from pro use.

The Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass is built in Japan at the Fuji-Gen plant that makes so many quality instruments. Here we’re seeing an Export model, identified by the matching black headstock.  On models intended for sale within Japan, the headstock. Drawing from the very popular P-J concept, the Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass has the general outlines of the classic Jazz Bass, but adds a Precision Bass type pickup in the middle position of its Basswood body.

  Fender Triple Jazzmaster Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Daphne Blue, 2018

The Fender Triple Jazzmaster was a limited edition take on the classic model, with a trio of Tim Shaw designed Filter ‘Tron like pickups. Part of a small run built during 2018, this Fender Triple Jazzmaster sports a Daphne Blue finish on its Alder body, while the Maple neck with bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard has dot position markers and the natural Maple finish.

  Fender Mustang Dakota Red, 1965

Appearing in 1964 as part of a revamp of Fender’s entry level line, the Fender Mustang Dakota Red was the lowest priced model that included a tremolo tailpiece. The Mustang was also available in Blue and White. In 1965, following the sale of Fender to CBS, the Mustang – along with other models – received some immediate rebranding. The serial number plate and the tuning machine casings were stamped with a letter F.   On the Mustang, the headstock was also enlarged, a change also applied to the Stratocaster.
