It’s rare to see one of these available for sale – a Terry McInturff Taurus in Translucent Purple finish, built during 2001 with an AA Quilted Maple top. The McInturff Taurus is a single-cutaway solidbody electric using the proven formula of a Maple cap on a Mahogany body, with Mahogany for the neck and Indian Rosewood for the fingerboard. On the Taurus, the Maple cap is highly figured, AA Quilted Maple. A mixture of Abalone and Mother of Pearl is used for the inlay set.

Here is a lovely Deering Calico Blonde 5-String banjo, built in Lemon Grove California, just before Deering Moved to Spring Valley. Deering started business as a banjo company in 1974, working from a shop in Lemon Grove, California. By 2001, the business had grown and new premises were opened just a few miles east in Spring Valley.

Martin D-42 Purple Martin Dreadnought #38 of 50, 2018

Here is a spectacular rarity – the Martin D-42 Purple Martin, #38 of 50 built during 2018 and featuring a fantastic inlay set. Based on the classic Dreadnought design and pairing a bearclaw-figured Englemann Spruce top with Katalox for the sides and back, this is an example of Martin’s work at its finest. Katalox, sometimes known as ‘Mexican Royal Ebony’ and formally named ‘Swartzia cubensis’, is a hardwood sourced from southern Mexico to northern South America.

Francois Tachet Mirecourt School Guitar, 1830s

Here’s something special, a lovely Romantic Era guitar built by Francois Tachet in Mirecourt, northeastern France, during the 1830s or early 1840s. Mirecourt has long been known for making musical instruments and lace; instruments from the area are often referred to as from the Mirecourt School. Louis Panormo was a contemporary, working in London. This Francois Tachet romantic guitar – at approximately 185 years old – is in good working order, and has had some expected service over the decades.

Gretsch G6134B Black Penguin, 2009

Always tasteful, elegant and understated, the Gretsch G6134B Black Penguin is the top of the Gretsch line of chambered Jet models. The first Gretsch Penguin models appeared in 1956 as an adaptation of the Duo Jet to the aesthetics of the unexpectedly successful White Falcon. Before it was discontinued in 1964, only a few dozen were built. There were no Black Penguins built.
