Gibson SG Special Sparkling Burgundy, 2019

The Gibson SG Special first appeared under that name in 1963, but began as the Les Paul Special in 1955, and was discontinued in 1971. Construction is pretty straightforward, with a slab Mahogany body and a Mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard. Indian Rosewood replaced Brazilian around 1965.

Here’s a thing of beauty – a Gibson LPR8F a Les Paul Reissue 1959 Figured Western Desert Fade with Stinger, built during 2011 in Nashville TN. The Gibson LP8RF would commonly be referred to as an R8, and indeed there is an R8 marking in the control cavity.

Gibson SG Deluxe Cobalt Fade, 2013

Over the years, there have been a few guitars with the Gibson SG Deluxe name, but this one from 2013 is perhaps the most genuinely Deluxe. Sporting a flamed Maple top on a Mahogany body, a Mahogany neck with bound headstock and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard and split-diamond inlays, the 2013 Gibson SG Deluxe also featured three ’57 Classic pickups with some new wiring.

Here is a rare beauty – a Gibson Le Grand archtop electric model from 2005, the successor to the classic Johnny Smith model built from 1961 to 1989. The Le Grande made its debut in 1993 and while it hasn’t appeared on Gibson’s website or catalog since around 2010, is has been available on special order from the Custom Shop.
