The body is brass with nickel plating and a double-line engraving around the edge (the nickel plating presents a few challenges to capturing an image). Nickel has a tendency to lightly tarnish over time; this is one of the reasons many shifted to Chrome as a longer lasting plating material.

This 12-fret neck example, dating to March 2015 and built at the National plant in San Luis Obispo, California, blends features of the Style O and Style O Deluxe, particularly in the choice of Mother of Pearl diamond shape position markers. It is in pristine condition with the original hard shell case.

MORE →The Supro / Valco Coronado was one of a large number of models built in the early 1960’s by Valco under the Supro and National names, along with many other brands not owned by Valco. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois due to that city’s central location for manufacturing and distribution, Valco was the heir to the National and Dobro companies. They made musical instruments and amplifiers for many other companies including catalog giants and Gretsch, until the company’s demise around 1967.

The official model number is ‘T-14WS’, and it’s a slim, steel bodied, three cone resophonic guitar with a 14-fret neck. And at under eight pounds, it weighs less than many solid body electrics! The T-14 Cutaway Tricone is full-scale guitar, at 25.66 inches. This requires a bit more tension on the strings and the cones, which can result in increased volume.
We’ve received a brand-new National Reso-Phonic Pioneer RP1 semi-hollow electric in a fabulous Chipped Ivory finish! These are great guitars with unmistakable tone and the solid build quality expected from a National Reso-Phonic guitar. The neck is maple with ebony fingerboard, and the body is semi-hollow finished steel. The Lollar P-90 in the neck position provides a warm, fat tone and the piezo element in the bridge accurately reproduces the resonator tone. Active circuity rounds it out.
