The Flaxwood Rautia is an innovative instrument built in a small town in Finland. What makes it unusual is the use of shattered wood with other composites, and injection molding it. They have named the material, and the company, Flaxwood. Our observation has been that composites often have a variety of shortcomings, but Flaxwood seems to have addressed many of them.

The Alhambra 10FP Carlos Pinana Flamenco Negra guitar, a recent model from Alhambra guitars in the eastern part of Spain. Many contemporary Flamenco players find they need a guitar that offers a fuller and rounder bass response, as well as the traditional treble-clarity and power one expects in a traditional Flamenco guitar. To this end we have seen an increasing number of Flamenco Guitars built with dark coloured Rosewood back and sides, commonly called Flamenco Negra guitars.

The Gold Tone OB-250 has everything needed to produce THAT tone: a sand-cast bell brass flathead tone ring, a cast one-piece resonator flange circling a multi-ply maple rim with twin coordinator rods and an extra-deep curly maple multi-ply resonator for better low-end response. The curly maple neck has a bound ebony fretboard with hearts & flowers inlay. The bracket hooks even have metric threading to enable finer tension adjustment. “

Gibson Keb Mo Steel String Guitar Sunburst 2014

The Gibson Keb Mo model uses the L-body, with a 12-fret neck design that puts the bridge close to the vibrating center of the Adirondack Red Spruce top. The back, sides and neck are Mahogany, a pairing that provides a crisp, sparkling clarity and good note separation. The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian Rosewood. The body is bound with a creme ivoroid and herringbone purfling. Herringbone was a very common guitar decoration right up until World War II, but it came from Germany and when US stocks ran out, they couldn’t be replenished. Most subsequent instruments used plainer, multi-layer purfling. The tuning gears are Grover Sta-Tite models.

The Gold Tone MM-150 half-inch-thick maple rim carries an authentically-designed Whyte Laydie -style scalloped three-piece brass tone ring under an eleven-inch Remo Renaissance head. Premium parts include a comfortable maple neck, rosewood fingerboard with snowflake inlays and a frailing scoop, vintage Fairbanks-style headstock design, planetary tuners, Vega-style armrest, and No Knot tailpiece. The MM-150 is completely set up at the Gold Tone Factory.
