Gibson Les Paul Standard Honey Burst, 2011

Gibson Les Paul Standard Honey Burst, 2011

The Gibson Les Paul Standard from 2011 is a bit different from a number of other years, based on a chambered Mahogany body. At 8 pounds, this is one of the lightest Les Paul Standards around – and it looks great. Dating to March 09, 2011 and built in Nashville, this Gibson Les Paul Standard with Honey Burst finish looks a lot like a lovely early Burst with a nicely but not wildly flamed bookmatched Maple top.

Thomas Malapanis Classical Guitar, 2004

   Thomas Malapanis Classical Guitar, 2004

Here we are looking at the Thomas Malapanis Classical numbered 26, and dated to 2004.  The top is Red Cedar,  while the sides, back, headplate and bridge are Cocobolo.  The sides are lined with a Cypress or Sycamore facing, not the same as ‘laminate’ woods,  a technique pioneered by Jose Ramirez III to help increase clarity, and still used on some higher end Ramirez models.

Larrivee LV-09E Rosewood Artist Series, 2006

Larrivee LV-09E Rosewood Artist Series, 2006

This Larrivee LV-09E was built during late 2006, and is in great shape with a factory-stock L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system! Drawing from classical guitar building roots, the L-body provides a full, even harmonic representation with plenty of volume and articulation. The ‘V’ indicates a rounded Venetian style cutaway. The top is Sitka Spruce, paired with Indian Rosewood for the sides and back. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, while the bridge and bound fingerboard are Ebony.

Gibson Country Western Model Natural, 1957 ( No Longer Available)

Gibson Country Western Model Natural, 1957 ( No Longer Available)

The Gibson Country Western Model debuted in 1955 as a miracle of rebranding – it is the classic Gibson SJ-N, Southern Jumbo Natural, with a new label! The SJ-N appeared in 1942, became the Country Western in 1955,  was again renamed the SJ-N in 1960,  and  finally dubbed the SJ Country Western in 1962.   The model was discontinued in 1977. The Gibson Country Western model, like the SJ-N, pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck.
