Gibson Robert Johnson L-1 Sunburst, 2005

Here we’re looking at a Gibson Robert Johnson L-1 sunburst guitar, dated to January 11 2005 at the Gibson Acoustics shop in Bozeman, Montana under supervision of master luthier Ren Ferguson. Built like an early 1930’s L-1, this guitar features a scallop-braced Sitka Spruce top, with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks and neck. The 12-fret fingerboard and bridge are Ebony on this example.

Gibson 1942 Banner J-45, Vintage Sunburst Limited Edition

The Gibson 1942 Banner J-45 reproduces in as many ways as possible the initial 1942 models. I have to say that Gibson’s done a fantastic job in designing and building this guitar. It’s very light, as the originals were, and uses thermally aged Adirondack Spruce for the top, and Mahogany for the rest of the guitar, except for the Indian Rosewood bridge and Fingerboard. This model does have a truss rod; from time to time during the war, Gibson would run out of the steel rod, and some of their guitars from the era didn’t get them.

Gibson J45 TV True Vintage Sunburst, 2012

TThe Gibson J45 TV True Vintage is the result of an effort to reproduce the look, sound and feel of the iconic J-45 ‘Banner’ models built during the Second World War. The Gibson Acoustic division in Bozeman Montana, then supervised by Ren Ferguson, carefully examined and measured many original examples and came up with some excellent instruments.

Pre-Sold‼ Gibson Clapton Firebird I 1964 Model Sunburst, 2019

This fantastic instrument is pre-sold, but we wanted to share it. It’s a brand new Gibson Clapton Firebird, number 100 of just 100 built to re-create Clapton’s 1964 Firebird I as used in Cream. Gibson introduced the Firebird in 1963, initially using neck-through construction – while the neck section is built of several sections of Mahogany separated by Walnut for stability, it extends the full length of the guitar.

Gibson Byrdland Venetian Cutaway Archtop Sunburst, 1991

The Gibson Byrdland Florentine Cutaway model has been in production since 1955 though Gibson also offers the original sharp Venetian cutaway. It is based on a thinline version of the classic L5-CES body, but with a short scale length of 23.5 inches, two inches shorter than the L5. The Byrdland was introduced as a custom model for two top Nashville session players, Billy Byrd and Hank Garland.

Gibson Byrdland Florentine Cutaway Sunburst, 1968

The Gibson Byrdland Florentine cutaway model originally had a rounded, ‘Venetian’ cutaway between its introduction in 1955 and 1960, and regained the Venetian cutaway in 1969. Modern Custom Shop ‘reissue’ models are available with either shape, since 1992. The Byrdland had its origins in the requirements of busy working session guitarists – two working session guitarists in particular. Hank Garland and Billy Byrd were two of the top Nashville players throughout the 1950’s.
