Hagstrom Swede Mahogany, 1973

Built from 1970 to 1982 at the Alvdalen, Sweden plant, the Hagstrom Swede was a major step for the Swedish builder and this Mahogany example illustrates how good these guitars were. Before evolving into the 1979 set-neck Super Swede, the Swede used a bolt-on design and did not have a zero fret. This example dates to 1973 and was 44th in its production batch.

Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe II Honeyburst, 2013

First appearing in 1983, the Gibson Les Paul Studio has been built in a range of variations though all aim to deliver a real Les Paul experience but at a lower price point. The price savings mostly come from two labour intensive areas. First, most Studios have thinner finishes and not all are gloss. This reduces the time spent in the finish room which can take weeks for a full gloss.

Fender 50th Anniversary Stratocaster Sunburst, 2004

Here we have a very well preserved Fender 50th Anniversary Stratocaster, built during 2004 at the Fender plant in Corona, California. This example features an Ash body and Maple neck, with a single-layer white pickguard. The finish is the early style two-tone sunburst. For this, Fender sprayed a yellow center coat and then a dark ring around the body edges.
This is not a slavish re-creation of the 1954 model. It also sports a modern two-point trem bridge with steel block saddles – this is one of our favourite bridges for the improved brightness, clarity and separation offered by the heavier bridge components.

Gibson Les Paul R9 ‘Real Feel’ 16 of 25, Burst 2003

This Gibson Les Paul R9 ‘Real Feel’ very rare instrument is in very good condition, with light wear. As these replicate the original, relatively thin nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, there is an amount of natural, expected finish sinking into the pores of the Mahogany back and neck, and light belt buckle or jean-rivet marking in an expected area on the back.

Since the late 1970s, the Ken Smith Bass has been a benchmark for innovative, high quality custom instruments designed for use in studio, performance and touring situations. Featuring the use of different wood types, Ken Smith has built a huge range of basses for working pros, and are often used by Jazz and Gospel players. Ken Smith started off in his teens building basses for himself, and is largely self taught.
