C F Martin HD28 Dreadnought Steel String Natural, 2016

This C F Martin HD28 was built during 2016 at the Martin shop in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It is in very clean condition, with Sitka Spruce top and braces, Indian Rosewood for the back, sides, and head plate. Mahogany is used for the neck, body blocks, linings, and back braces. The fingerboard is Ebony, as is the bridge. Wear is minimal, this guitar has been lightly played and well looked after.

Waterloo WL 12 Steel String Guitar Black, 2017

This Waterloo WL 12 built around 2017 at the Collings / Waterloo shop in Austin, Texas, is paired with a solid, X-braced Spruce top – finished black – with a lovely Flame Maple set, stained medium Walnut, for the back and sides. The neck, body blocks, back braces and lining are Mahogany. The fingerboard is Indian Rosewood, and Ebony is used for the bridge and nut; the saddle is bone. A vintage ‘Firestripe’ style pickguard is installed and open-gear strip Golden Age Restoration tuners complete the look.

The Hofner Gold Label series, introduced at NAMM in 2013, features the highest quality German components, with custom colours and pickup combinations. You can even get a 3-pickup violin bass! This example of the Hofner Gold Label Series 500/1 Violin Bass is one of two, built with this wood selection – a carved solid Spruce top with a five-piece back of Flame Maple, Sapele Pommele (the two large quilted sections) and Indian Rosewood.

Eduardo Ferrer Flamenco Blanca Guitar, 1970

Flamenco has very deep roots in Spanish culture and there have been many influential Spanish builders of both and Flamenco and Classical guitars. There are two basic types of Flamenco models, Blanca and Negra – light and dark. Flamenco Blanca guitars are typically built using Cypress for the back and sides, a light, brilliant wood while Flamenco Negra instruments often use Palisandro, more commonly known as Rosewood.

Linda Manzer Cutaway Steel String Guitar Natural 1980

Here we are looking at a Linda Manzer cutaway steel string acoustic built during 1980 in Toronto. It features a concert body using Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate, Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard. The nut and saddle are bone. Schaller tuning machines with ebony buttons are installed at the head, and a K&K pickup set has been installed to an endpin jack. This example features Abalone for the rosette and position markers – a mix of dots and a leaflet with stem. The top has a small thin clear plastic tap plate, an excellent idea that protects the top without hiding it.

Gibson J45 Slope Shoulder Dreadnought Sunburst, 1959

The Gibson J45 appeared in 1942, and started gaining popularity just in time to have wartime restrictions placed on is production. During WW2, various adaptations were made, in particular the omission of a steel truss rod when Gibson out of their metal rations. However, it has stayed in production to the present day, with some changes along the way. The J45 has proven popular with countless musicians, and works exceedingly well as an accompaniment to the human voice.
