Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue, Bourbon Burst 2020

Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue, Bourbon Burst 2020

The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard introduced not only a new version of the Les Paul design, but was also the first of the ‘Burst’ models. Here we have a lovely, brand new Gibson 1958 Les Paul VOS NH Reissue in Bourbon Burst. This beautiful instrument strives to be an accurate reproduction of an aged – new old stock and Vintage Original Specification – with oxidized nitrocellulose lacquer finish and nickel hardware. It is not a ‘Relic’ model and has none of the simulated wear or chipping resulting from those processes.

Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard Honeyburst, 2000

Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul Standard Honeyburst, 2000

The Gibson Gary Moore Les Paul was built from 2000 to 2002 at Nashville, Tennessee and reflects but doesn’t copy Moore’s 1959 Burst originally used by Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac. Taking a regular Les Paul body and neck, the Gibson Gary Moore model does away with body and neck binding, and has a wiring or magnetic configuration that mimics the ‘out of phase’ tone on Peter Green’s Burst. Green felt that the pickup had been physically reversed, but in reality one of the pickup magnets may have been reversed as a manufacturing error.

Gibson has reissued the Les Paul Standard Sunburst in its 1958 form several times, and here’s a nice one that dates to 1988 and carries Tom Holmes pickups. Built in the traditional manner, this Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunburst has a very nicely bookmatched, flame Maple top with a well faded cherry sunburst, now down to a tea-like tint. As usual, the body back and neck are Mahogany, with Indian Rosewood for the bound fingerboard.

Gibson Batwing SG Standard, Cherry 2005

Gibson Batwing SG Standard, Cherry 2005

The Gibson Batwing SG made its debut in 1966, with an extended pickguard covering the top above, between and below the strings, and also supporting the pickups. These were produced until 1971, at which point the SG Deluxe replaced it. The SG has been used by many players over the years, and the Gibson Batwing SG is very frequently seen in the hands of the great Angus Young of AC/DC. The large ‘batwing’ pickguard is well suited to an active playing style. It offers significant protection to the finish. And, incidentally, much easier pickup and electronic maintenance. That can be a real bonus for a touring musician!
