Melancon Pro Artist T Trans White, 2007

Melancon Pro Artist T Trans White, 2007

The Melancon Pro Artist T is built by Gerard Melancon, who works out of Thibodaux, Louisiana and combines the elements of a Tele and a Strat, ‘Like a 57 Chevy with power steering and power brakes!’ Melancon grew up with lots of great Cajun and country music both in his family and in the surrounding area, gigged with a number of rock bands and played sessions before gradually shifting to guitar building. He now builds many custom, high quality electric guitars with excellent finishes.

Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Black, 1973

Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Black, 1973

This Fender Stratocaster guitar features the classic finished one piece Maple neck, with the new from 1971 3-bolt MicroTilt neck and hex-key ‘Bullet’ truss rod adjuster at the head. The MicroTilt and Bullet adjuster are extremely practical features, allowing rapid adjustments to the guitar’s setup, without disassembling it. Many earlier Fender models have damaged pickguards from truss rod adjustments with the neck on – a flat screwdriver would frequently be used and dig into the pickguard.

Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Black, 1975

Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Black, 1975

The Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail Black was produced in tandem with its much better known brother, but it was never as popular as the trem bridge version. This version appealed mostly to players who wanted the extra sustain, snap and ‘spank’ from a fixed bridge – as with a Telecaster. The Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail was finally discontinued in 2010 due to low sales. Here we have a Rosewood fingerboard Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail dating to 1975, and built at the Fender plant in Fullerton, California.

Fender Stratocaster Elite Sunburst 1983

  Fender Stratocaster Elite Sunburst 1983

Here’s a rare bird – from 1983, a Fender Stratocaster Elite in sunburst. This model was built only in 1983 and 1984, and introduced a number of new features and hardware pieces. Most visible of these are the short-lived FreeFlyte knife-edge trem, and the pushbutton pickup selectors. New pickups were installed, and the output jack went on the side – in this case, a Neutrix locking jack. With the three pickup switches, all pickup combinations are available. Not so immediately apparent is the routing. From the top, this guitar looks very much like a Stratocaster. But if you turn it over, you see that there is no cover, or route, for the trem springs, just a small plate covering access to the output jack wiring.

Fender Stratocaster Maple Neck Translucent Brown, 1979

Fender Stratocaster Maple Neck Translucent Brown, 1979

The Fender Stratocaster was a hit from the moment it appeared in 1954, though its advanced features did not knock the Telecaster off the charts. Both continued in production to the present day. Dating to 1979 and built at the Fender plant in Fullerton, California, this Stratocaster has a body stamp for 1978. It is in largely original condition, with the originally poly finish and frets in decent condition.  Along the neck edges, there is some expected chipping and wear of the finish. The body finish has a number of dings and the top may have been cleaned with some sort of solvent as there is some slight pitting.
