Appearing around 2008, the Gibson Les Paul Traditional delivers a 1980’s style Les Paul Standard often with some weight relief. Dating to 2012 and built at the Nashville plant, this Gibson Les Paul Traditional sports a Honey Burst finish on a relatively plain top – the finish code is LPTDZ16LMCH3 – and under the hood has the moderate Gibson ‘Traditional’ weight relief system.

Gibson ES345 TD Thinline Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1966

Here is a very nice and largely original Gibson ES345 TD in sunburst finish and with a Trapeze tailpiece, built during 1966 at the Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On the label, the TD in the model name stand for ‘Thinline Double Pickup’. Sometimes you’ll see a ‘C’ added, which denotes Cherry finish. ‘ES’ stands for Electric Spanish, referring to the way the instrument is built and played – another Gibson option was ‘EH’ for Electric Hawaiian, used on steel and lap steel guitars played with a bar, steel or slide.

Fender JV Squier Series Stratocaster Rosewood MIJ Sunburst, 1982

This Fender JV series Squier Stratocaster with Rosewood fingerboard and Sunburst finish – the 1962 Reissue model, built by FujiGen-Gakki at Nagano is an Export model in early to mid 1982. This very nice guitar has had its original pickups – which are included and appear to be US made – replaced with a set of EMGs.

Furlanetto F Bass 6 String Sunburst, 1989

This Furlanetto F Bass 6 String dating to 1989 and built using an Ash body is paired with a one-piece Maple neck and Macassar Ebony fingerboard. The bass is wrapped in a very nicely executed Nitrocellulose Lacquer sunburst finish. Hardware is straightforward for a six string bass – there are six Gotoh tuners with mini bodies at the head and a massive, fully adjustable six saddle bridge.

Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster Sunburst, 2006

Drawing from 1957 specifications, the Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster is built from a light-weight two-piece Alder body, and a one-piece Maple neck. (This model is also available with a Rosewood fingerboard). Since Johnson removes the backplate, it’s not installed on the signature model and mounting holes are not drilled. The tuners are a staggered set – the posts for the high E, B and G strings are shortened to increase downbearing at the nut without requiring a string tree, which can add friction.

Ibanez JSM100 John Scofield Model Thinline Sunburst, 2009

The Ibanez JSM100 uses the same construction concept as other ES models, but the wood choice is a bit different. The body, instead of using Maple laminate, uses figured Anigre, an African hardwood, for the laminate. The center block is Maple, as is the neck, which has an Ebony fingerboard. Decoration is similar to other Ibanez models in this range; hardware is gold plated, and the inlays include a mix of Abalone and Acrylic for the block markers on the bound, compound radius fingerboard.
