Fender American Series Telecaster Maple Neck Sunburst, 2000

Fender American Series Telecaster Maple Neck Sunburst, 2000

The Fender American Series Telecaster was built from 2000 to 2007, renamed from (and then back to!) the American Standard Telecaster. It presents many of the best improvements to this venerable design. Leo Fender’s design, quickly becoming the Telecaster, has arguably been one of the most successful and influential musical instruments ever. It has been in continuous production since the early 1950’s, with really only relatively minor changes and improvements.

Fender Telecaster No.7170 Blonde, 1954

  Fender Telecaster No.7170 Blonde, 1954

Here is one of the ‘Grail’ instruments – Fender Telecaster No.7170 with its original Blonde finish, built during 1954 in Fullerton, California. This Fender Telecaster No.7170 used the then-ground breaking pattern of an Ash body with a bolt-on, one-piece Maple neck. The blonde finish and all of the hardware is original.

Fender Telecaster Blonde, 1969

   Fender Telecaster Blonde, 1969

Elegant in its simplicity, the Fender Telecaster from the beginning proved its versatility and extreme reliability. Though there have been many variants, it has been produced without any really major changes for over 70 years. One of the strong points in the design of the Fender Telecaster is that it can easily be customized without compromising its performance.

Fender Antigua Telecaster Crafted in Japan, 2002 – 2004

Fender Antigua Telecaster Crafted in Japan, 2002 - 2004

Crafted for Fender Japan, this Fender Antigua Telecaster dates to 2002-2004 and was built by Tokai Gakki in Hammamatsu. Not many of these were built, and some carried a factory Bigsby. The heel carries the serial number and the ‘Crafted in Japan’ logo, and these reveal the builder.

Fender Thinline Telecaster Olympic White, 1998

Fender Thinline Telecaster Olympic White, 1998

The Fender Thinline Telecaster was introduced in 1969 as a design by Roger Rossmeisl, who had done major work for Rickenbacker. There have been a few versions of this model, and this particular 1998 example seems to me one of the best ever.

Goya T-Style Guitar Made in Japan Blonde, 1977

Goya T-Style Guitar Made in Japan Blonde, 1977

Here’s a rarity! This is a Goya T-Style copy, built during 1977 by Matsumoku in Nagoya, Japan, under contract to the Martin Guitar company. This Goya T-Style guitar is a decent copy, though not exact. Unusually, it is complete and original, with the ‘Ashtray’ bridge cover and the original hard shell case. The body is Ash, and the neck is Maple, but the fingerboard is a separate Maple slab.
