This is an interesting piece – a Frank Neat Bean Blossom 5-string banjo, built as one of 22 Bean Blossom banjos, with the neck and resonator using walnut from a tree that grew next to Bill Monroe’s stage at the Bean Blossom festival grounds. Working from his shop in Russel Spring, central Kentucky, Frank Neat builds some of the world’s finest banjos. He’s run his shop since 1980.

Fender Jazzmaster 65 Reissue Ice Blue Metallic, 2014

The Fender Jazzmaster 65 is part of the American Vintage series, and this 2014 model is dressed in a custom Ice Blue Metallic with matching headstock! Introduced in 1958, the Jazzmaster was aimed directly at Gibson’s market – jazz players who wanted the extra warmth of a rosewood fingerboard, and lower output and mellower, or less bright, pickups.

Rick Turner Renaissance RB4 Standard Fretted Bass, 1999

The Turner Renaissance RB4 Standard is one of three trim levels for three RB versions – with 4, 5 or 6 strings, and fretted or unfretted. These are a chambered design, the Standard with Cedar top, and Walnut for the sides and back. The bridge is Rosewood with Bone saddle.

Collings MT2 Mandolin Sunburst

The Collings MT2 mandolin is a spectacular instrument – not overly decorated, and a simple design, but executed with great skill and top shelf materials. The Collings MT2 features a hand carved, arched, F-hole Adirondack Spruce top with bookmatched flame Maple for the sides, carved arched back, and neck. The bridge, head plate and bound fingerboard are all Ebony. The finish is a near perfect nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst. Collings has absolutely mastered the arts involved in lacquer finishing.

The Eastman MD515 mandolin is a high quality yet reasonably priced rendering on the classic Gibson F-style instruments introduced in the 1920s during Lloyd Loar’s tenure at Gibson. One of Orville Gibson’s radical innovations was to bring violin family construction principles into the world of guitars and mandolins, leading directly to the arched top instruments we find commonplace today.

Greenfield GF Model Cutaway Steel String Acoustic, 2015

Here is a fantastic Greenfield GF cutaway steel string guitar, built during May 2015 and signed inside the top by Michael Greenfield at his shop in Montreal, Quebec. The Greenfield GF uses the Florentine cutaway Grand Concert body design of the Greenfield G1, with an X-braced Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, Mahogany for the body blocks and neck, and Ebony for the headplate, asymmetrical bridge and bound fingerboard.
