Gibson Midtown Custom Ebony, 2014

The Gibson Midtown Custom was introduced in 2011 and built until perhaps 2015 as a thin, chambered flat top ES style model. Though it resembles the ES-336 or 339 models, the Midtown line – Standard and Custom – uses a chambered Mahogany body back with a flat Maple cap.

Guild Starfire III Thinline Cherry Red, 1964

The Guild Starfire III Thinline first appeared in 1960, as a single-cutaway, thin but fully hollow archtop, with a Bigsby tailpiece – the Starfire II was the same guitar but with the Guild harp tailpiece. It was available with either maple or mahogany laminate body.

Gibson Memphis ES-339s Compact Thinline Tobacco Burst, 2018

There’s a small mystery around this Gibson Memphis ES-339s Compact Thinline – the meaning of the ‘s’ after the ES-339 on the label. A first suspicion is to indicate a Spruce top, but that’s not the case here. Built like its full sized relatives ES-335, the Gibson Memphis ES-339s uses scaled-down body dimensions but full neck dimensions and scale length.

Epiphone Supernova Manchester Blue, 2005

Influenced heavily by the Sheraton used by Noel Gallagher in Oasis, the Epiphone Supernova was built from 1997 to 2005, with a signature pickguard and features making it the Noel Gallagher Supernova. It was available in a variety of finishes including the Manchester Blue seen here, and a custom Union Jack graphic.

Fender Thinline Telecaster Olympic White, 1998

The Fender Thinline Telecaster was introduced in 1969 as a design by Roger Rossmeisl, who had done major work for Rickenbacker. There have been a few versions of this model, and this particular 1998 example seems to me one of the best ever.

Gibson Memphis ES-339 Thinline Electric Cherry Red, 2013

The Gibson Memphis ES-339 was built from 2007 until the Gibson Memphis plant closed in 2019, and the 339 is now built in Nashville with some small changes. In 1996, Gibson launched the short-lived ES-336, a scaled-down version of the classic ES-335. This model retained the key playability elements of the 335 in terms of scale length, fingerboard width and hardware selection.
