Fender Precision Bass Sunburst, 1973

  Fender Precision Bass Sunburst, 1973

It’s hard to overstate the impact of the Fender Precision Bass. Deceptively simple, it changed the way popular music is performed and recorded. Here we’re looking at a sunburst, Rosewood fingerboard Fender Precision Bass, built in Fullerton, California during the era of CBS’s Fender ownership. It is dated to 1971 based on its features and its serial number plate. The body is Alder, and the neck Maple with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard.

Larrivee C-10 Cutaway Steel String Natural, 1982

Built in Victoria BC during the spring of 1982, this Larrivee C-10 – also known as an L-28 – sports a very nice vintage Seahorse headstock inlay by Wendy Larrivee.  The Larrivee C-10 is still in production, though not as elaborate as this vintage example. Its base is a pointed Florentine cutaway L-body with a Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the back, sides and head plate.

The Gibson J-45 Slope Shouldered dreadnought, or Jumbo, was introduced in 1942 to replace the J-35, which had been built since 1936. It has remained in production ever since, and its rich warm tones make it a great match with a singer. Its basic finish has from introduction been a Sunburst top with darker stained back, sides and neck.

Fender Stratocaster Candy Apple Red, 1962-1964

Fender Stratocaster Candy Apple Red, 1962-1964

Here’s a guitar that needs little introduction – a Fender Stratocaster Candy Apple Red, with components from 1962 and 1964. Here, the Alder body is from 1964, while the Maple and ‘Slab’ style Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, plus the electronics, are from 1962. Aside from the body swap, one of the only things not original is a tone knob. Fret wear is light to moderate, and the wider fret wire indicates a re-fret, likely decades ago.
