Gibson Les Paul Artisan Guitar, 1977

Gibson Les Paul Artisan Guitar, 1977

The Gibson Les Paul Artisan was built during the middle of the 1967-1986 Norlin period. The body uses the Les Paul Custom theme of bound, carved three-piece maple cap, on a bound mahogany back, but also uses a three-piece maple neck (five if you count the ‘wings’ for the headstock width). The ebony fingerboard and headplate are both bound, and as mentioned both the headstock and fingerboard feature a hearts-and-flowers mother of pearl inlay and script logo set that clearly draw from classic Gibson banjos. The Artisan is one of the very few Gibson guitar models to use this type of inlay pattern.

Fender Bronco Guitar Fiesta Red, 1974

Fender Bronco Guitar Fiesta Red, 1974

The Fender Bronco was built between 1967 and 1980 as a single pickup, 24 inch scale student guitar. It featured a slab alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, and a simple trem bridge. This example dates to around 1974 – it’s possibly a bit earlier – and is in largely original, and good, condition. The pickup has been changed, but other parts seem original. The finish, likely Fiesta Red is in quite good condition. This guitar has actually been played, as there is some wear to the end of the fingerboard and that’s usually from strumming with a pick. Fretwear is light to moderate. The original trem arm is long gone.

❌ Sold ❌ Fender Telecaster Thinline Guitar Natural, 1978

Here we have a 1978 Fender Telecaster Thinline, from the second variation produced 1972-1980 at Fullerton, California. For this version the stock Tele pickup set is replaced with a pair of original design, humbucking pickups designed by Seth Lover, and the ‘Ashtray’ bridge shifts to the ‘Hardtail’ model like that found on trem-less Strats. The pickguard has been enlarged to enclose the bridge pickup. This example carries the classic one-piece Fender Maple Neck, with Schaller-designed tuners and the innovative Micro-Tilt 3-bolt neck attachment.

William Laskin 12-String Guitar, 1976

 William Laskin 12-String Guitar, 1976

This William Laskin 12-String seems strongly influenced by the Larrivee body design, which in turn is based on the proportions of classical guitars by Hermann Hauser. These proportions provide a full, well balanced tone with plenty of volume. This piece uses a Sitka Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the sides, three-piece back, and the headstock overlay that carries the Canada Goose inlay. The neck is mahogany, and the bound fingerboard and bridge are Ebony.

Gretsch Country Club 6195 Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1960

Gretsch Country Club 6195 Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1960

This 1960 model Gretsch Country Club, with the trestle braced thinner body. The serial number grouping indicates an early part of the year, though the dates are not certain. There is some uncertainty as to the model number, because the stamp on the label is very faded. At this point, the Country Club used the designation 619x, with the ‘x’ indicating the finish colour. The most common variations are 6192 (sunburst), 6193 (natural) and 6196 (Cadillac Green). We read the last digit of the label as a 5, which can mean a custom order.

❌ ❌ Gibson RB-18 Mastertone Top Tension 5-String Banjo Sunburst, 1996

❌ ❌ Gibson RB-18 Mastertone Top Tension 5-String Banjo Sunburst, 1996

Here we’re looking at a wonderfully preserved Gibson RB-18 Mastertone ‘Top Tension’ 5-string banjo, with its gold plating unworn and the finish lightly checked from age. From the serial number, it appears to have been produced during June of 1996. The number breaks down as ‘RB’ for Regular Banjo – i.e. 5-string – ’18’ for the style, followed by two digits for the year (96) and two for the month (06). The last group of digits, a single number 7 in this case, is the production number for that model in that date period.
