Fender 51 NoCaster Relic Custom Shop Surf Green, 2012

From the Corona Custom Shop, this Fender 51 NoCaster Relic sports a Surf Green finish, though with one exception a range of custom colours including Surf Green were introduced in 1956. The exception was a white 1951 NoCaster with gold hardware, for Oscar Moore, Nat King Cole’s guitarist.

Rickenbacker 4004cii ‘Cheyenne’ MapleGlo, 2014

Based on the very successful ‘Cresting Wave’ 4000 series, the Rickenbacker 4004cii ‘Cheyenne’ mixes Maple with Black Walnut (a Canadian ice cream tradition!) for the body, and Maple with Bubinga for the neck and fingerboard. Both the Maple and Black Walnut used on these basses are from sustainable, North American farms; Bubinga is native to West Africa.

Fender American Standard Telecaster Blonde, 1995

Here we’re looking at a Fender American Standard Telecaster with an opaque Blonde finish, dating to 1995 in Corona, California, using three North American woods. The neck is Maple with Walnut covering the rear-mounted truss rod channel, and at this time the body was Alder. Fender also uses various types of Ash as a body wood. The fretwire is a medium-jumbo type, larger than ‘vintage’ styles and with the slightly ‘rolled’ 22-fret fingerboard edges provides a very comfortable, positive feel with plenty of traction for bending.

Shown here is an Ibanez Musician MC100 solidbody, bolt-on electric built during 1978 and 1979 by Fuji-Gen in Nagoya, Japan. The Musician models were original design and very high-quality instruments and marked Ibanez’ move away from relying on copying other designs.

The Larrivee OM-40 Walnut, built on Larrivee’s OM pattern, is part of the Legacy series that reflects traditional design aesthetics. As an OM, it delivers a full well balanced tone with great representation throughout the harmonic range. Walnut delivers brightness with a warm mid-range tone, between Mahogany and Rosewood.

Rickenbacker 4001 Bass Fireglo, 1975

One of the iconic rock basses, the Rickenbacker 4001 bass was built as a two-pickup version of the 4000 bass, adding a neck pickup to the distinctive Cresting Wave body design by German luthier and designer Roger Rossmeisl. Built from 1961 to somewhere between 1983 and 1985 when it was replaced by the 4003 bass, the Rickenbacker 4001 bass features a Maple body and through-body Maple neck, with a bound and finished Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
