During the 1800s there were many romantic guitar builders, in Paris, London, and other European cities.
This fine example was built in Paris around the 1850s and is stamped ‘Coffe’ and signed Coffe – Goguette by the neck block.
Fully playable, this wonderful instrument is built with a Spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. The neck is mahogany with an ebony veneer, and ebony is used for the fingerboard, headplate, bridge and tuning pegs. The rosette is mother of pearl, and ivory was used for the frets and along with ebony, for the binding. The scale length is 602 mm. A historic ‘coffin’ style case is included.
This instrument can also be seen here, with other historic pieces.
