Comments This DK Guitars Picasso was built in 2012 by Dmitry Kulakov near Ottawa. These unique instruments are visually arresting, and what they offer the player is not really available with other designs. The large port on the bass side gives a direct experiece of the guitar’s sound; the player hears this rather than what’s reflected back from the room.

The design uses a custom double-X bracing pattern and an offset arch. The tonal result is full and balanced, with complex sparkling highs and rounded lows.

The top inlay and bridge design are suggestive of Picasso’s work, and add to the unique character of this instrument.

Serial Number N.A., built 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Pricing $3995.00 CAD with Gator case. SOLD
Neck Flame maple neck with maple-bound Ziricote fingerboard, DK mother of pearl inlay at the octave fret. Fingerboard radius is 16″, scale length is 25.4″ with a nut width of 1 3/4″.
Frets 19 narrow frets total, 14 to the body.
Body ‘Concertino’ body shape with one large sound port oriented towards the player – perhaps use a ‘over the shoulder’ mic location. Englemann spruce top, flamed, spalted ‘Ambrozia’ maple back and sides, with Ziricote binding. Lower bout is 15.5″ across.

This instrument is braced very lightly with a dual-X system, and the strings are anchored at a ziricote tailpiece.

Finish Combination of lacquer and oil for a light, maintainable finish. The spruce top is finished with a light semi-gloss lacquer and the rest of the instrument uses an oil compound.
Hardware/electronics Gold Sperzl locking tuners, bone nut and saddle, gold strap pins.
Playability/Action This instrument plays very well, and the construction of the neck joint ensures that the key angle adjustments are easily performed. These instruments are intended for light strings.
Case Gator case included
