!!! Douglas Scott Concert Classical Guitar, 2008

Douglas Scott is an independent luthier operating a shop in the southwest part of British Columbia, Canada. His building specialises in high quality custom order Classical, Flamenco and Terz guitars.

The instrument we are looking at here is a Douglas Scott Red Cedar and Indian Rosewood concert classical guitar that dates to 2008, in very good condition. It has no serial number as such but the inside of the top, under the fingerboard tag, is signed by the maker with ‘#23 2008’ below the signature.

This fine guitar is extremely well built, with impeccably clean construction. Aside from the Red Cedar top and Indian Rosewood for the back, sides, bridge and headplate, Ebony is used for the fingerboard. The linings are solid, not kerfed, and the sides are braced. The tuning gears are by Irving Sloan and very smooth and precise.

Finished with French Polish, at just under three pounds this guitar is extremely light and responsive.

Play wear is light. French Polish allows the minumum damping of the wood’s vibration, but at the expense of limited physical protection, so the clean surfaces show that this instrument has been well cared for. Still, there are a few small marks here and there; the guitar has actually been used as intended!
