The MD515 was the mandolin that re-shaped the entire mandolin market in my opinion. A few years ago it was unthinkable that an all solid wood, true hand carved & graduated f-style mandolin could be offered at under a $2000 price point.
Not only is this instrument an excellent value … it is a mandolin that stands toe-to-toe with the big boys. The Eastman MD515 features a bound radiused ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge, rugged cast tailpiece, thin lacquer finish over a rich “Classic” violin stain and reliable precision tuners.
As you can hear from the audio file that Andrew Collins so graciously agreed to make for us, the MD515 has that f-style cutting power but with great “chunk” in the midrange and an overall warmth that is always lacking in lesser instruments!
