The Fender Robben Ford Model was produced in Japan from 1987 to 1993 and was based on the Esprit Ultra.
This example is from near the end of production and features a chambered mahogany, rather than alder body. The next year, production resumed in the US Custom Shop, with the mahogany body but without the chambering. The last models were built in 2002.
Inset Mahogany neck with a shaped heel, bound ebony fingerboard and mother of pearl split block markers. The bound headstock features a Mother of pearl fan inlay with Robben Ford truss rod cover. The scale length is 24.75 inch and there are22 Medium frets with very little play wear.
The body is a Double-cutaway, chambered design with mahogany back and arched spruce top. The finish is a gloss poly cherry sunburst in good condition.
Hardware is Gold plated. Twin Japanese – made humbucking pickups, bridge 19K and neck 8K, Schaller style roller bridge and fine-tunable tailpiece; sealed tuners with ebony buttons.
This guitar has been well looked after and plays well and cleanly, with lots of room for action adjustments. A hardshell molded case is included.
