Here is a rarity – a Gibson EB 0L long scale bass from 1972, reaching just past the Fender Bass scale length to 34.134 inches. This model was built from 1970 to 1977 to a quantity of 1,153, according to the shipping totals page at Fly Guitars, a site dedicated to Gibson basses.
The Gibson EB 0L has straightforward construction, pairing a Mahogany body to a three-piece Maple neck with an unbound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Hardware is simple – open gear tuners at the head, a tripod-style bridge with cover, and one large humbucking pickup with volume and tone controls. Most EB-O basses were short scale at 30 inches, but the EB-0L exceeds the Fender 34 inch length.
There was another version of this bass, the EB-4L, and its differences were electronic; the pickup had four coils and a slider switch offered several combinations.
This example is in good all original condition though there is a small delamination on the back of the head near the low E tuner. Fretwear is light, and the finish is quite clean with just a little bit of ‘jean rivet rash’ on the back.
This Norlin-era bass plays well and has a huge, thick sound.
The original Gibson form fit hard shell case is included.
