Introduced in 1949 and discontinued in 2019, the Gibson ES-175 was for decades the standard instrument for electric jazz guitarists.
The Gibson ES-175 followed the construction pattern established through years of experience in the developing electric guitar field using laminate Maple top, back and sides for feedback rejection. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, with Rosewood for the fingerboard and wooden bridge components. The position markers are double parallelograms, and along with the Gibson logo and crown are now made from Mother of Pearl.
From 1949 to 1953, the ES-175 carried a single P-90 pickup in the neck position. The two-pickup ES-175D appeared during 1953, and demand for that overwhelmed sales for the single pickup version, which was finally dropped from the catalog in 1971, and the two-pickup labels generally stopped including the ‘D’ designation. In 1957, the ES-175D was Gibson’s first ‘ES’ (Electric Spanish) model to be fitted with the all-new humbucking ‘PAF’ pickups.
Here we’re looking at a very nice Gibson ES-175, in the ‘D’ or two-pickup form, dating to November 05 2012 and built at Gibson Nashville. It is in very good, clean and original condition with only the lightest wear. There is light, expected and natural tarnish to the tailpiece and bridge plating. The tuners are Gibson Deluxe models with plastic keystone buttons. These tuners work well and are relatively light weight compared to other sealed tuners like Grover Roto-Matics, and help with instrument balance. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is in great shape.
The original hard shell case is included, and contains the Certificate of Authenticity.
