The Gibson J-45 made its name as a workhorse guitar not long after its introduction in 1942, and they have been used by working musicians in countless gigs. Sometimes the gig needs more volume, and at some points adding a deArmond soundhole pickup was the way to go.

Here we have a 1970 Gibson J-45 Steel String Sunburst with deArmond Pickup, with the serial number 616252 and Made in USA stamped on the back of the headstock. It was built while Gibson was moving to Nashville from Kalamazoo, Michigan so it could have been built at either location.

In the style of the 1970’s J-45, it is a square shoulder model with a rosewood bridge and adjustable rosewood saddle. Overall, it’s in good condition with light fretwear. A deArmond soundhole pickup has been installed with the output jack on the top (the other choice is on the side, at the lower treble bout). At the time, endpin jacks weren’t commonly used.

It plays well, and has that J-45 warmth. A non-original hard shell case is included.
