The Gibson RB-250 Mastertone was the working-musician’s banjo for decades and offers that classic Gibson sound with the “Snap” to the treble attack that only Gibsons have. This is essentially the same banjo as the famous Gibson RB-3 without the Wreath inlay, Gibson built a few RB-250 banjos every years from 1949 until 2010, when a devastating flood in Nashville destroyed Gibson’s Banjo and Mandolin facilities, jigs and fixtures. Since then, a few mandolins have been built, but banjos seem to be off the catalog for the foreseeable future.

This vintage Gibson RB-250 Mastertone banjo was built during 1977 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and carries serial numbers 06170802 on the Mahogany neck, with an Ebony fingerboard sporting the classic Bowtie Inlay pattern. While it is in overall good condition, it would benefit greatly from a re-fret and setup. For reference, The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop rate sheet can be found at this link.

This RB-250 is sold without case; we can provide a new Superior hard shell case for approximately $250.
