Martin 000-15M StreetMaster Guitar, Distressed Satin

Part of the 15 series, the new Martin 000-15M Streetmaster is a Mahogany body 000 model with a ‘distressed’ satin finish, no binding, and Katalox, sometimes called ‘Mexican Royal Ebony’ for the fingerboard and bridge.

Based closely on the standard series 000 Mahogany models, the new Martin 000-15M Streetmaster uses Mahogany for the top, back, sides, body blocks, and neck. The top and back are braced with Sitka Spruce. The fingerboard and bridge are Katalox, a Central American hardwood properly named ‘Swartzia cubensis’, and is often used as a substitute for African Gabon Ebony. Like Ebony, Katalox heartwood is much darker than other sections. It is not a CITES listed material, and is not listed as threatened or endangered.

This guitar sounds just like a Mahogany body 000 model, with plenty of top end sparkle that’s not overpowered by the bottom or middle frequency ranges. It is very comfortable to play and a really good sounding model for finger style or strumming.   The distressed finish looks great,  and coupled with the vintage style tuners give a retro look.   The finish is quite thin, so it imposes minimal restrictions on the vibration of the wood.
