C. F. Martin 00-42SC John Mayer ‘Stagecoach’ Guitar, 2016

Here’s an interesting instrument – From C F Martin, the 00-42SC John Mayer model, which replicates a Stagecoach or early Travel Guitar! This spectacular instrument combines a 00 size body with Sitka Spruce and Cocobolo, and adds ’42’ series inlays and appointments. A 12-fret neck and slotted peghead are used to keep the dimensions down, keeping in mind that the SC designates that these originally were designed to be used as entertainment on stagecoach journeys (or perhaps ordeals).

Built with superior grade solid German Spruce top and solid Palisandro or Indian Rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard and bridge, the Alhambra 10fp has a somewhat warmer tone with the low action characteristic of flamenco guitars.

Gibson Dove Custom Acacia Amber Burst, 2015

The Gibson Dove Custom Acacia Amber Burst was introduced as a limited edition model, using AA grade Sitka Spruce for the top, Acacia for the back and sides, and Maple for the 3-piece neck. The fingerboard and bridge are Indian Rosewood. An L R Baggs VTS system is factory standard, and the hardware is gold plated.

David Wren Concert Guitar Brazilian Rosewood, 2012

This David Wren Concert guitar, built during 2012 and using a very nice Bearclaw figured Sitka Spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood for the back, sides, and headplate. One of Canada’s premiere luthiers, David Wren started work with Jean Larrivee in the early 1970’s. He’s been working from his own shop for decades, with spells at the Millwheel on Yonge Street and as part owner of The Twelfth Fret. Wren Guitar Works is now a standalone shop in Toronto’s east end.

Gibson SG Standard Heritage Cherry, 1996

The Gibson SG Standard is the successor to the Les Paul Standard, by way of Gibson’s 1961 complete redesign of the Les Paul models, and the loss of the Les Paul name that followed. There are a few small dents here and there, which have not broken the finish. Fret wear is light and the guitar plays well and is a comfortable weight – interestingly both examples weigh the same, 3.25kg or 7.15 pounds.
